Leathery Fern I Light Catcher
A couple of young Leathery Polypody fronds captured in a diamond format of glass.
Living up to its name, this fern has a rather stiff leather-like texture. It prefers to grow in rock cracks, oceanside forests and even on sand dunes along the Pacific coast in North America. Young fronds have round compacted pinnae, but as it matures they become more finger-like and flexible. The stem grows from green to straw colored arching toward the sky up to 2 feet tall. This artwork would serve well as a gift to anyone who appreciates the forested coastlines of the Western Americas.
The repurposed glass is hand trimmed to 3.0" x 3.0".
LIGHT CATCHERS: Our glass has a unique way of handling light and the most popular way of seeing it is through our Light Catchers. With an almost endless collection of nature inspired designs, these squares and rectangles of repurposed window glass can fit in almost anywhere... a window, a porch, a mirror, even a tree. The glass is handcut to fit the original artwork, balanced on the handmade mold and then kiln fired for at least 9 hours. To finish the piece, it is hand drilled, secured to a silver swirl hook and then gift boxed. Ideal for collectors and those who appreciate the uncommon gift.
